La Noces de Cana
❮back
In Les Noces de Cana, a drunkard upstages an Angel (on a trapeze) with the story of Christ's first miracle. In Le Fou et la Mort, Death unfurls from a stream of black fabric. A clown tries to provide musical accompaniment. Descendants of Commedia and Italian socialist theatre, the company Théâtre de la Girandole shows are full of poetry. I designed the costumes as a nostalgic reference to working man's Italy and its culture: the good life in America (the Groom), the communion dress (the Angel), the immortal Pierrot and the splendid uniforms of the Napoleonic war foot soldiers.
